Punto Fijo is a harm reduction program for injecting drug users in the communities of the San Juan Metro area. It exchanges clean needles and syringes for used ones to reduce HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C transmission. It also facilitates access to rehabilitation programs, orientations, testing and HIV/AIDS counseling for its participants.

Two service-enhancing components of the program are the…

  • Needle-dispensing Vending Machine, first of its class in America. Provides sterilized material 24/7 to injecting drug users. Its effectiveness has been proven in European countries.
  • Exchange Room, space where trained personnel handle the needle exchange.
